Obituary, John Chester Randrup, 72 died on December 26, 2013 in Petersburg, Alaska. He prevailed over adolescent and mid-life illnesses but could not overcome the battle with cancer.

He was born to Wesley and Frances Randrup in Bellingham, Wash., joining siblings Joan Marie and Judith, followed by Susan and David.

He was known as Butch or Slug or Festus by those close to him who shared his lifelong experience. As Festus, his sense of humor always prevailed in conversations and he loved to get a person's goat. As Slug, his constant companions were his dogs and he always had a treat in his pocket for them.

His military experience in the motor pool was a part of a lifelong experience of mechanics which he thoroughly enjoyed.

He married Dolly in 1964 and their strong relationship produced five children: Joel, Jeff, John, Joby and Joni. As he and Dolly later parted, they always remained friends.

He and his brother owned and operated an automotive repair business in Petersburg for 39 years, where they served the public with great satisfaction.

Chet requited with Patty, a high school sweetheart and they married in 1992. He became a good husband, companion and friend and accepted her children and grandchildren into his life with an open heart as he was always willing to help anyone.

With Patty, they built a cabin on family property across from Papke's and enjoyed their time together there doing the things he enjoyed. He loved boating, hunting, camping, wildlife, exploring, gathering firewood, cutting trails, hauling gravel, tinkering, along with time spent with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Joan Marie.

He is survived by his children, step children, siblings, and all of their offspring.

A memorial service will be decided at a later date.
